MMA or Mixed Martial Arts is a full contact combat sport that incorporates a variety of martial arts and combat sports techniques. The sport has gained a lot of recognition through the promotion and popularity of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) brand. Through this popularity, the general public has started to take an interest in the conditioning and training practices that MMA fighters use to maintain their endurance, strength, and focus during a fight.

For those of us that don’t want to step into a ring, but would love to gain the effects of training like a fighter, here are some typical exercises you can incorporate into your daily workout. Keep in mind these are high intensity movements and require a high level of conditioning, so talk to your doctor before integrating these drills.

Sprints– designed to strengthen the legs and improve oxygen uptake

Tire flips– utilizes the entire body to build power and endurance

Box jumps– plyometric exercise to improve vertical speed and endurance

Medicine ball slams– helps with shoulder and core strength while building cardiovascular endurance and eye-hand coordination
