3 Survival Strategies for Thanksgiving

While the Thanksgiving holiday is intended to be a day of giving thanks, it can also be a day of stress. Here are some tips to help survive travel, relatives, and the buffet line.

  1. Travel early and pack light. With so many families traveling and notoriously bad weather conditions, allow extra time for travel. Pack light because planes and buses are expected to be full.
  2. Prepare the house for guests. To ease family stress, prepare by putting away anything breakable or valuable, renting kids’ movies, stocking up on healthy snacks, and planning an out-of-the-house activity to somewhere local, like a museum or zoo.
  3. Fill a plate with greens and drink water. To reduce portions of heavy foods like potatoes and bread, try filling up the plate with non-starchy veggies and salad first. It also helps to drink a glass of water before each course to avoid overeating and stick to a healthy diet.
