Break Down Barriers to an Active Life

6.22.2015 Active LifeWe all know that physical activity is necessary to maintain not only physical fitness but mental fitness and overall health. However, there can be perceived barriers that prevent us from participating in regular physical activity. Here are a few common barriers and potential solutions to overcome them:

Lack of time – Monitor your activities for a few days and identify small slots of time where you could sneak in exercise. This could be something as simple as taking the stairs, exercising while watching TV, stretching at work, or even standing on the subway.

Lack of motivation or energy – Have your workout gear ready by the door or in your car so that you are ready to work out when the opportunity arises. You can also invite friend. Simply telling someone about your goal to increase physical activity can help you to be accountable to your plan.

Lack of money for gym membership or equipment – Walking, jogging, dancing, yoga, Zumba, and many other activities require little to no equipment. You can also look up exercise videos online for in-home guidance.
