Common Mistakes on the Elliptical Trainer

Taking a dull approach to your elliptical workout and casually spinning your legs while reading a magazine isn’t going to blast away those unwanted calories. To get the most out of your workout, avoid the following workout busters:

  • Zero resistance: You might feel like a million bucks spinning at a mile a minute, but without resistance, you’re not going to see results.
  • Sticking to the same workout: Intervals are a great way to break up a workout on the machine and boost your calorie burn. Try leaving the resistance steady and changing your pace or maintaining your speed and changing your resistance.
  • Not working the upper body: Incorporate the moving handles two days a week to put your upper body to work.
  • Spinning up a hill: Unlike a treadmill, a large incline won’t increase the difficulty—instead, it’s easier for your legs to push and pull through the stride.
