Disconnect Before You Sleep

Having trouble catching your Zzz’s? You may want to try disconnecting before you sleep. Research shows that the blue light emitted from iPads, phones, and laptops coupled with the adrenaline response to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram feeds could have significant adverse effects on your sleep cycle. The blue light from your electronic devices suppresses the sleep hormone melatonin and disrupts your internal clock which could be keeping you awake at night. Furthermore, the updates we receive on Facebook and other social media sites trigger an emotional response which keeps our bodies from being totally relaxed before bed. So, if you have been noticing you need an extra cup of coffee or can’t get through your week without a nap, try shutting down all electronic devices at 9pm to ensure you are getting a natural, restoring night’s sleep.
