Loving Your Job is a Skill

Contrary to popular belief, it is not absolutely necessary for your job to be your passion in order to find joy and fulfillment through work. Sometimes a healthier perspective or a few simple changes can make all the difference. The following are tips to help improve happiness and job satisfaction, stress less and enjoy a more productive workweek.
Brighten up the commute: Starting the morning on a high note can improve the day overall. The less time spent commuting the better. Leave earlier to decrease travel time and find a fun podcast to look forward to.

Attitude of gratitude: Saying thank you does not cost anything, but has measurable impact on workplace morale, culture and motivation. Try to cultivate more gratitude at work by expressing quality thanks more frequently, especially to those who rarely get thanked.

Find stressors: Whether there are problems at home or issues at work, the first step to solving problems begins with awareness of major stressors. If the underlying issue is within your control, work to make a positive change.

Speak up: Open communication creates a more positive culture for companies and allows issues to be addressed early on. Instead of venting continuously about challenges or problems, try focusing more on how to contribute to a solution.

Take a breather: Listen to what your body is telling you. When the afternoon slump hits, grab a snack and some fresh air.

Know when to turn off: Setting healthy technology boundaries is important to make time to recharge. Enjoy time at home, fully present for family, friends and loved ones, rather than chained to smartphones or tablets.

Talk it out: Sharing has positive emotional rewards. Contrary to avoiding facing emotions, handling stress is much easier with a supportive network of friends and family.
