Power Foods

In need of a mid-day pick me up? The afternoon plunge in energy levels can be a result from not getting a good night’s sleep, skipping breakfast, or eating a lunch of processed carbohydrates without added protein.  Instead of turning to caffeine or snacks from the vending machine, choose one of these delicious power foods:

  • Walnuts and Almonds:  These foods will help stabilize blood-sugar levels and improve overall mood and brainpower.
  • Low-Fat Dairy: The natural sugar in dairy provides instant energy, while the protein will help with long-term satisfaction.
  • Citrus Fruits: The smell of citrus can stimulate alertness, and the fiber and natural sugar will provide lasting energy for the rest of the day.
  • Dark Chocolate: If the afternoon crash is accompanied by stress, try a little dark chocolate as a mood booster!
