Sunscreen: FAQ

Q: What should I be looking for when buying sunscreen?

A: Make sure you’re buying sunscreen with 3 important factors:

  • SPF of 30+
  • Water Resistant
  • Broad Spectrum Protection (protects against UVB and UVA rays)

Q: When and how should I reapply sunscreen?

A: The American Academy of Dermatology suggests putting on sunscreen 15 minutes before exposure to the sun/outdoors and to reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours or after sweating or swimming. You should use enough sunscreen to cover all skin that is not covered by clothing, especially commonly missed areas like face, ears hands and feet.

Q: Which SPF is best?

A: SPF 30 blocks 97% of the sun’s rays. When you use a higher SPF it may block a little more of the UV rays, however, there is currently no sunscreen that blocks 100%. Keep this in mind next time you are purchasing your sunscreen.
