The Salty Six

Sodium is essential to regulate blood volume and blood pressure and control nervous and muscular function. However, too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, weight gain, headaches, and kidney disease, among other health risks. Unfortunately, 9 out of 10 Americans are consuming more than the recommended 1,500mg per day. These common foods may be loaded with extra sodium:

1) Bread and rolls

2) Cold cut and cured meats

3) Pizza

4) Poultry

5) Soup

6) Sandwiches

Check out the American Heart Association’s page on sodium and salt to learn more.
