As summer winds down, find ways to work smarter, play more and feel great. During the hectic workweek, small changes and strategic breaks can go a long way in increasing well-being and productivity. Don’t wait until the stress of life becomes overwhelming. Try these five tips to manage workplace stress and thrive.

  • Hang with happy people: Being near a positive person is enough to induce a smile. Happiness is contagious, so share honest compliments, express gratitude and use humor to lighten up stressful days.
  • Get organized: Go through ever-growing stacks of paper in the office, clear out emails, and review to-do’s for what can be delegated or dropped. Setting regular time to declutter helps clear the mind and free time at work and home.
  • Catch some zzz’s: Stress is magnified when the body needs rest. A full eight hours of sleep can improve awareness and mood which makes tackling projects and meeting deadlines easier.
  • Get a breath of fresh air: Nothing energizes like nature. Try to take at least one walk outside during the day. Increased levels of vitamin D may help fight depression, making sunshine a quick get-happy solution.
  • Listen while you work: Constant noise at work can be draining and halt productivity. Put on a pair of headphones and listen to soothing music to escape the chatter and increase work efficiency.
