Sunscreen Myths Debunked

Clear up misunderstandings about sunscreen to protect yourself this summer!

1) I can skip it – UVA and UVB rays can still cause sun damage on cloudy days. Apply sunscreen whether you will be outside for 15 minutes or 5 hours, or whether you have fair or dark skin.

2) I already have SPF in my makeup – Makeup usually offers about 15 SPF and is usually applied only once a day. Apply a facial moisturizer with SPF 30 under your makeup and reapply throughout the day or wear a hat for extra protection.

3) Lotions, sprays, or stick sunscreens offer different protection – There are no major differences between these products aside from personal preference. Choose a method that you like and apply as directed on the bottle.

4) It’s okay to use last year’s sunscreen – Check the expiration date on the bottle before using. Some sunscreens break down quickly, losing effective protection. You shouldn’t have left overs for the next year anyway if you use sunscreen as directed.
